New Book Release: Done in the Dark

Book lovers, I am happy to announce the release of our new book, Done in the Dark, written by yours truly! I stayed true to the crime fiction genre with Done in the Dark and it is my hope that each reader will not only enjoy the story, but also the strong family message contained within this book. While Done in the Dark has some connection to my first novel, Bad Intentions, it is a very different story.

I want to thank everyone that participated in the publishing of this book: Ms. Kedi Darby for the cover design and Ms. Robin Thomas and Mr. Michael Zamore for the edits. I truly appreciate your efforts!

Done in the Dark is currently available in both hardback and e-book on this website as well as with major online retailers. Please feel free to read a free preview of Done in the Dark on this website!

Until the next time, Happy reading and Happy writing!

"Using Negativity and Adversity as Motivation"

Negativity and adversity, it seems, are a part of life. We all encounter them at one point or another, right? In fact, one can even argue that negativity and adversity could be a necessary part of life because overcoming negativity and adversity can help us recognize and appreciate the positive aspects of life that much more.

Whenever we find ourselves trying to progress on our individual journey or trying reach a specific goal in life, we are bound to encounter negativity and adversity. In fact, it should be expected. Negativity and adversity can present themselves in many forms, to include: detractors and naysayers, obstacles that fall into our path, as well as unexpected events that can interfere with our progress, etc. Some instances of negativity and adversity are self-inflicted while some are completely beyond our control. Regardless of how, why, or when we encounter negativity and adversity, the most important thing is how we handle and respond to them.

I’ve found that the key to combating negativity and adversity is not only anticipating these things, but also planning for them so you can minimize their impact and then quickly move on. When we encounter negativity and adversity, it’s important that, instead of allowing these things to impact our progress, we use them as motivation to push ourselves even harder to reach our goals. Instead of wasting energy on over-analyzing the negative occurrence and the adversity we are facing, we should channel our energy into learning as much as possible from the experience and then figuring out how to overcome it and avoid a re-occurrence of it in the future, if possible.

Negativity and adversity can be showstoppers, or they can be sources of motivation that inspire us to buckle down even more and grind even harder. This choice belongs to each of us. For me, it’s a no-brainer. I choose to tackle negativity and adversity head-on, transform them into sources of motivation, and then use them as stepping stones to achieve greater heights.

What choice will you make?

The Name of the Game? Expansion!

What’s up good people!

It’s been too long since my last post. However, I’m happy to report that the long delay was not due to laziness or complacency. In fact, the delay was due to just the opposite. It’s been pretty hectic on this end and, in business, that is always a great thing! Scripted Visions Publishing Group has been busy in the business of expansion. THAT’S GAME! Sports is well into it’s 3rd season and has seen it’s reach and listenership grow with steady progress. Full episodes of TGS are now available on iTunes! We have also teamed up with several new sponsors including Audible by Amazon and Thrive Fantasy! TGS is also preparing to introduce The THAT’S GAME! Sports “Fan’s Tribune”, a brand-new platform created BY sports fans FOR sports fans! The Fan’s Tribube will feature original content written from the unique perspective of die-hard sports fans. Readers can expect entertaining stories of what it means to be a sports fan...everything from the agony of defeat to the thrill of victory.

In addition to our progress on the sports entertainment front, SVPG is also expanding into the career consulting business. We are starting slow by first offering professional writing services such as resumes and cover letters. Stay tuned for the addition of SVPG’s professional writing services to our website!

Finally, SVPG is finally, finally, finally getting back to the business of books! No matter how far we go, we’ll never stray from where we started. I can’t say too much, but book lovers can expect at least one new release this year. Maybe more than one. We’ll see!

We are looking forward to new things during the remainder of 2018 and heading into 2019! Stay tuned and prepare to be amazed!

"BALANCING THE BUDGET"...Book Tours for Self-Published authors & Indie Publishers?

Money. It seems to be the word of the day, no wait, the word of the week, well, no…it’s the word of the month, right? Then again, I suppose; especially in today’s economy, that “money” is THE word for all occasions…it’s always en vogue…period…In fact, is there ever a time these days where we aren’t worried about money? How to save it, how to spend it wisely, how to make more of it, etc etc…

Money is what leads me to today’s posting. Specifically, the proper managing of it for self-publishers and indie-publishers. I’ll probably hit on different aspects of money management in upcoming posts, but in this post I wanted to hit on marketing a published book- specifically the infamous BOOK TOUR. Is an actual book tour still a viable and valuable option for today’s authors? With all of the technology available at our fingertips, does it still make sense for an author to embark on a book tour across several states, time zones or even coasts?

Now, I’m not saying book tours no longer make sense, but I do think it’s worth asking the question. See, for traditionally published authors maybe embarking on a long book tour still makes sense because of the money machine that stands behind their books.

However, for self-publishers and indie publishers, the question remains: is a book tour a cost effective method of reaching the masses? And again, does it even make sense time-wise in this day and age with the ability to reach audiences from your home computer (websites, Twitter, blogging, Facebook, podcasts, You-Tube, etc, etc). Has today’s technology coupled with the vast reach of social media made face-to-face interactions obsolete? Do people even go into book stores as much these days?

Personally, I still enjoy going into book stores and libraries. However, I am curious how the number of people visiting book stores today stacks up against say…five or ten years ago. I bring all of this up because self-published authors and indie-publishers do it all, often with limited resources.

From the actual writing of the books to the marketing and the publishing including covering all of the associated costs. These tasks create the need to micro-manage each and every cent that is spent. I began my publishing journey as a self-published author and have since evolved into a indie/ hybrid publisher. So I feel compelled to show due respect to the self-published authors and indie publishers who have chosen to go it alone and do it all their way.

The question of book tours and other money-related topics pose interesting questions that I don’t have the answers to just yet. But, I would love to hear some of the opinions and experiences of other self-published authors and indie publishers out here.

Peace and Blessings,

- The Fun of "Beneath the Underdog" -

Here at Scripted Visions, one of our favorite sayings is “starting small, building a giant”. Believe it or not, we love being the new kid on the block. We love being the underdog. We love being the upstart who is bucking traditional norms and paving their own path.

We not only understand, but we embrace all of the challenges that come with being a small business trying to find its way and carve out a place in this ever-growing business world. Challenges like limited financial resources, limited reach and other various obstacles. But our vision, effort, and work ethic are in limitless supply and will help us overcome these challenges. Sure, it is hard work being a start-up; but it’s also fun and worth every long hour and every drop of sweat that is expended while chasing this dream.

So what’s next? Well, we continue to grow and we’re looking for talented individuals who want to join our team. We are looking for grinders and hustlers who want to be part of something great at its very beginning while we are climbing that rough side of the mountain. Are you that type of individual? Then stay tuned for the opportunities we will be throwing your way. We want you on our team!

Peace & Blessings,

- The Necessary Evil of The Editing Process -

It’s always the waiting that’s the absolute worst. As writers we all know that feeling, don’t we? After the many, many man-hours, sleepless nights and caffeine binges, you’ve finally reached the point with your masterpiece where it's ready to be scrutinized. You’ve done your creative best and now comes the hard part: The Editing Process. This is the hard part for so many reasons. This is the part where you lose control…and you may not like it, but you do have to allow it. As an artist, the loss of creative control, even if only temporarily, can be tough, especially for writers a.k.a. natural-born control freaks. Then there is the actual handing over of your manuscript to another pair of eyes and another set of hands. Eyes and hands that will be putting your masterpiece beneath a hot light and a powerful magnifying glass, chopping away at it…changing it…twisting it and turning it…flipping it inside out and even burning it a little bit. But… as agonizing as this entire process can feel, it’s all for the greater good. This entire process is meant to make your manuscript as polished and as perfect as possible.

Personally, as a writer who is as impatient as the sun is hot, the editing phase has to be, by far, the toughest part of the publishing journey. I can remember as a freelance journalist how tough it was waiting for the edits on a 750-word article. So, waiting for someone to edit a 70,000 novel is a whole new animal to catch and tame. I can remember when I had to relinquish creative control over my debut novel, BAD INTENTIONS. I was forced to wait for my editor to come back with the good, the bad and the ugly about my creation. I have to admit, it’s a nerve-racking process and the most you can do is try to stay busy by focusing on the other aspects of the project like marketing (more to come on marketing in later posts). You can also begin working on future projects and catching up on those long-neglected household chores. At the end of the day, as much as I despise the editing process (is despise too strong of a word? No, I think it fits just fine), I do know how critical it is for the success of any writer.

So with a little twist on the old saying “Practice makes Perfect”, I pay homage to the necessary evil of The Editing Process by saying:

“Patience Makes Perfect!”

Happy Writing!

- Tyrone

Have you ever had a dream? No, no, no…not that kind of dream…not the dream you have while you are asleep and then wake up from. What I’m talking about is the kind of dream that keeps you awake both day and night and occupies the majority of your thoughts. It even distracts you from life's basic functions. This kind of dream fills you with an energy that you can't quite describe. It makes you hungry, but not for food...hungry for something different than what you already know. The kind of dream that won’t leave you alone no matter what you do, it lives and breathes in your mind. It's your passion and it's quickly growing into an obsession.

The kind of dream I am talking about pushes you out of your comfort zone and requires that leap of faith off of a very tall cliff…The kind of dream that will leave you kicking yourself if you don’t at least try to pursue it and avoid having to answer that infamous and dreaded question…“WHAT IF?”

Have you ever had that kind of dream? I am sure many of us have…I know I doubt…and I’m chasing it right now. I am hoping that all you will chase your dreams as well. Life is too short for anything less.

Dear Reader

You know, I have to admit, being in the "business of books" is more fun for me than anything else. How so? Well, simply put, because I LOVE books. It's really just that simple. I grew up loving books and over the years that love and appreciation has only grown. I consider myself to be as big a fan of a good book as anyone. As you get to know our company and experience our special brand of literary entertainment, I want to make a promise to you: Scripted Visions Publishing Group will always put the wants of you, the reader, first.
